The first thing you notice when you walk down Main Street on Mackinac Island is that there are a lot of fudge shops. In fact, there are more than a dozen shops within 3 blocks of each other. Murdick’s Fudge claims to be the first and it opened in 1887, but there are at least a 2 or 3 other shops that claim to have been established right around that same time.
“Up North” is what people in Wisconsin call all the areas north of their current location in the state. People in Milwaukee go up north and so do people in Green Bay - Green Bay is already up north to people in Milwaukee. “Up North” is a term of endearment.
We traveled from the beautiful, quiet campground at Ada Lake to the Wisconsin State Fair Campground in Milwaukee, WI. The 4 hour drive was uneventful and we were able to avoid the rush hour traffic in the city. The campground at State Fair Park is more like a parking lot than a campground, but it’s ideally located to visit all of our favorite places while visiting Milwaukee.
We spent 5 days in the Lake Wissota State Campground. The campground location provided us an excellent opportunity to bike, kayak, and explore the Chippewa Falls area.
